Kids walk the walk for Hospice

Charity 5k walk sponsored by Glasgow Taxis gets 2000 pupils to Go All Heart For The Hospice.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice turned Glasgow and East Renfrewshire school kids all yellow for the Go Yellow sponsored 5k walk in Bellahouston Park. More than 2000 children took part this week to help raise funds for the Hospice’s Foundations Appeal.

Rhona Baillie, Hopsice Chief Executive said, “40 different schools from around the city pledged their support and we are delighted with Go Yellow again this year. This is year 13 of the Go Yellow event and it’s always a great day. All of the pupils love taking part and their support is hugely appreciated.

“Having just launched The Foundations Appeal on May 13 with a Breaking Ground Ceremony at our new site in Bellahouston Park, we are beavering away to raise the £330k of the £1 million spend that the foundations will cost! Every penny and all of the support we receive right now is so gratefully received so we can get the foundations laid and get on with building our new Hospice. We are turning to Glasgow and East Renfrewshire to show us their support, so in turn we can support patients and families in return.”

Today’s event, sponsored by Glasgow Taxi’s, is a great opportunity for pupils to learn about the Hospice and have fun at the same time. Before the day, Hospice staff visit schools and teach pupils about their services. After completing the walk, the children have the opportunity to take part in a host of fun activities including a climbing wall, cheerleading and an inflatable assault course.

Not only does the 5k walk encourage primary schools to get active, but it also gives school pupils the opportunity to support a fantastic charity”.
