Taxi stars take part in spicy wings contest at Van Winkle’s restaurant
A group of Glasgow Taxi drivers showed they could handle the heat when they took on a popular restaurant’s spicy wings challenge.
The drivers and their families paid a recent visit to Van Winkle on Glasgow’s Gallowgate, with the four bravest stepping forward to take on the restaurant’s extra fiery chicken wings.
Driver Jim Buchanan picked up a custom-made bumper sticker as the winner – with the spicy sauce all over his fingers and face to prove it!
He said: “I’m always up for a challenge and spicy wings is right up my street so this was a no-brainer. I’ve got the sticker proudly displayed in the cab now.”
Glasgow Taxis make a regular commitment to supporting other businesses in the city. Earlier in the month, the drivers and their families had stopped by Van Winkle’s sister restaurant, Mharsanta, in the Merchant City.
Stephen Flynn, chairman of Glasgow Taxis, said: “We are always keen to support other local businesses so I want to thank staff at both two restaurants for the warm welcome they gave to all the drivers, staff, and their families.
“We like to get out and about in the city as often as we can as it’s important for Glasgow firms to work together.”
Sophie Mallon, marketing manager for Van Winkle and Mharsanta, said: “It was great to have Glasgow Taxis visit both venues and we look forward to seeing them again soon.”
Radio stars Paul and Lynne, hosts of Heart Scotland’s Drivetime show, were also in Van Winkle to lend their support. Paul said: “The Glasgow Taxis guys are always good fun and it was great to catch up with them again.”
