Glasgow’s on the road to sporting success
A fleet of European Championships 2018 themed Glasgow Taxis are scooting about the city ahead of the games.
Commonwealth and European Champion swimmer Ross Murdoch, who has just been named as an ambassador for the championships, joined young people from across Scotland to unveil the eye-catching cabs during an event on Buchanan Street.
The four vehicles, which are already on the streets, are fully-wrapped with Glasgow 2018 branding.
Tickets for the exciting new multi-sport event are now on public sale, with attendances of 250,000 expected at venues in Glasgow and beyond next year.
More than 3,000 of the best athletes on the continent will take part in next August’s event, which will take place in 12 venues across Scotland. Athletes will compete across a number of different sports, including gymnastics in the SSE Hydro and a Cycling Road Race through the city’s streets.
On behalf of the Glasgow Taxis Ltd. Executive Committee, Stephen Flynn said: “When it comes to major events, nobody does it better than Glasgow – this event will prove that once again. Glasgow 2014 showed that when the spotlight’s on the city, it really shines.
“We look forward to taking visitors and locals around Glasgow in these very special taxis. They really look the part and we are proud to be involved in such a magnificent event.”
As well as 84 exciting sessions of sport across 11 days, in which athletes from 52 nations will compete, Glasgow 2018 will also feature a vibrant cultural festival at George Square, celebrating Scottish and Glaswegian culture.
